I have heard it said that love never dies,
and for me, I believe that is true.
For no matter the terms or under which guise,
what I feel for you, time won’t undo.
Whether you are from a liaison past
or the one I adore here and now,
the sweet love that I feel for you will outlast
all the limits that others allow.
Years ago, I waged a war to resist
this odd penchant I seem to possess
for preserving my bygone loves; they exist
alongside of the one I profess.
Even if you hurt me long ago when,
you remain one I love and hold dear.
And although I’ll go on to love once again,
what I feel for you won’t disappear.
Over time, I’ve come to trust in this road
that I’ve trodden upon from the start.
And I’ve learned a lesson that life has bestowed:
Divine wisdom resides in the heart.
It’s a trait you must accept from the start,
understanding as much as you can,
since it wouldn’t be wise to limit the heart
of the woman you know as Jo Ann.
I’m inept at lying, try as I might;
it’s just something that I cannot do!
Thus, you needn’t give in to doubts that the light
in my eyes is meant only for you.
So, if you are now the one whom I choose
to accompany me on my way,
know the love that I give, you never will lose;
what I feel for you ever will stay.
And if you were once my lover or friend,
know compassion prevails as my guide,
and I truly believe that love has no end;
in my heart, love for you will abide!
