In Watery Graves

A part of me I’d barely known

was locked inside my mind —
a young girl who had never grown
since fear kept her confined.

But one day not so long ago,
an old friend came to call
and toppled that first domino
so, from her cave, she’d crawl.

His presence had uncovered
a secret chamber within.
And in there, I discovered
the woman I might have been.

In watery graves, our old dreams lie,

forgotten and forsaken,
but if our tears are allowed to dry,
those dreams can reawaken!

And that passionate girl I learned to hide

by keeping her quiet and locked inside —
so frightened of knowing the pain of loss,
so scared of throwing that opening toss —
emerged, at last, from her watery grave
by riding on an emotional wave!
She married reality to her heart,
and the two can no longer live apart.

Dreams are sent to awaken
the paths that we have forsaken.

The yens you have that you’ve denied

and locked inside your mind
were given to you as a guide,
but fear has made you blind.

Allow yourself to reconnect
with whom you long to be.
So often, yearnings you reject
were sent to set you free.

You’ll find much joy in living
the life that’s meant to be yours.
Accepting and forgiving
yields power that opens doors.

In watery graves, our old dreams lie,

forgotten and forsaken,
but if our tears are allowed to dry,
those dreams can reawaken!

Sleeping in my watery grave,

awaiting the warmth of day,
I then was sent to help repave
your path and to light your way.
