All the foods and cookies from holidays past,
beloved movies to which we hold fast,
children sitting on Santa’s knee,
ornaments you hang on the tree:
To honor tradition on Christmas Eve
remains a goal we hope to achieve.
But what happens when circumstances then change,
as life unfolds and details rearrange?
How do you celebrate the now
while, the past, you don’t disavow?
And what do you do on this Christmas Eve
so warmth and magic you can retrieve?
Though others may think that I am naive,
my answer is this: Just simply…believe!
Whether on the Las Vegas Strip in a crowd,
on lonely roads that still need to be plowed,
living life in the desert heat,
strolling down a New England street,
no matter the stage of your life, don’t grieve:
Belief is all you need to receive.
If the thought of unanswered prayers, old and new,
has made you doubt that they’ll ever come true,
please remember that dreams alight
every year on Christmas Eve night.
They carry the answers within their weave;
your fears and worries, they will relieve.
So, let go of thoughts that often deceive.
Instead, you should trust your heart and…believe!
For the essence of Christmas lives in the heart,
implanted there by a magical dart,
thrown by elves born in fertile minds
(where imagination still shines).
They nurture the Spirit of Christmas Eve,
which all with caring souls can conceive.
From the multi-colored to mystical blue,
from ten degrees to a hundred and two,
lights you choose to adorn your tree
anywhere you happen to be,
the powerful magic of Christmas Eve
is always there for us to perceive.
As time travels on, there is no reprieve.
But all you need do is dare to…believe!
