XIX. Love Sonnet

Your absence makes me want you even more.

It stirs the fire that always burns in me,
so mind and flesh are constantly at war
whene’er your body lies across the sea.

My thoughts of you enkindle passion’s flame,
and mortal flesh interprets that desire
as signal to begin the carnal game
wherein the two of us are bathed in fire.

Without you near, my longings are unmet,
though thinking of you ever brings a smile.
This heart of mine, devoid of all regret,
embraces distance when a love’s on trial.

A flame that never flickers in the wind
is love that time and absence can’t rescind.
