The Unfinished Affairs of the Heart

Why do most avoid the quiet

and being alone with their thoughts?
Allowing others to call the shots
is easier than feeling
and is even more appealing
than dealing with the matters of the heart.

When we sit in utter silence,
sensations are bound to emerge.
And some emotions, we’re meant to purge!
It frees us of the shrillness
of the thoughts that bring on illness.
Through stillness, what is harmful can depart.

As humans on this journey
both mystical and real,
we strive for the ideal
to populate our life.
Yet seldom free of strife,
we push and strain each day,
allowing grief to stay
while driving love away.

Instead, we should allow
that space behind our brow
the serenity and means
through which our Higher Self convenes
with our egoic mind
to heal the wounds to which we’re blind.

The life that we hoped would evolve
and the dreams we’ve fashioned cannot start
to manifest until we resolve
the unfinished affairs of the heart.
