The Play

You call me from afar,

expressing what you feel;
your need for me is real,
and it is changing who you are.

The longing in your voice,
resounding in my ears,
erases many fears,
yet I’m reluctant to rejoice….

For no matter what you say

or what you long for in your heart,
we’ll ever be apart
unless we both decide one day
to let our passion lead the way,
so ‘we’ can finally stay.
The Director of the play we’re in is love.

No matter if it’s wrong

or selfish or unplanned,
the Fates have shown their hand,
and if we’re brave, we’ll play along.

Acknowledging desire
and baring hidden flaws
may not receive applause,
but truth and peace can weather ire.

If we fear what others think,

what could have been will ever haunt.
Denying what we want
will cause our joyous selves to shrink.
With Soul and ego out of sync,
we pen with lusterless ink;
then we write with fear and pain instead of love.

The author of the earthly play

(in which we each must star)
can use an ink that’s dull and grey
or one that’s bright and will portray
the radiant reflection
of who we truly are.

And if the mind is fraught

with needless woes and fears,
the scenes will flow with tears
and mar a forward-thinking plot.

Events that do occur,
born of a single voice,
are solely author’s choice,
and all the power lies with her.

Arm in arm or from afar,

I pray we both will stay in sync.
Then truth would be the ink
in any play in which we star.
Although the flames of Eros char
and leave us sharing a scar,
if we choose, we’ll pen our earthly plays with love….

The Director of the play we’re in is love.
