Eyes

Love that’s ever true,

reflected in eyes of blue,
was there before my birth
into this lifetime here on Earth.
Although I’ve seen it since,
a vivid memory imprints
my heart and body with a longing
for the feeling of belonging
that eludes me
and precludes me
from believing
the love, in other eyes, that I’m perceiving.

Love has made me drown
when mirrored in eyes of brown.
A passion that could melt
barriers that the Fates had dealt
has never truly left.
On days when feeling most bereft
of now forbidden earthly pleasures,
I imagine future treasures
that will find me
and unbind me
from believing
the hunger felt for him is ever-cleaving.

Love remains unseen
while gazing in eyes of green.
For if, from times long past,
love of a green-eyed mate held fast,
it’s not come into play
through dreams or men of present day.
Perhaps an iris that is rarer
might portend a message bearer
who then tells me
what unsells me
from believing
the false ideas others are conceiving.

Eyes are often blind
to love that the heart must find.
The mind may misdirect
feelings to thoughts that disconnect
a human being’s sight
from love that fills the heart with light.
Ideals and truths are ever-growing
once emotion triggers knowing.
What’s inside us
now can guide us
to believing
that love’s alive within the webs we’re weaving.
