Since the time I was merely a child,
I was never quite sure of my place;
although I would enter the race,
inner longings were unreconciled.
As a youngster with hopes multipronged,
I was always desiring much more
of life than I dared to explore
since I needed to feel I belonged.
In yearning to share with the world
the sum of every part of me,
I wondered where I was meant to be:
in Kansas or over the rainbow
or somewhere in between?
In the challenging years as a teen,
the confusion I felt was immense;
most everything didn’t make sense.
Self-survival became my routine.
As a grownup, I went down a road
that embraced certain parts of myself.
The aspects I placed on a shelf,
by mid-age, had begun to implode.
Unknowingly kept from the world,
a very crucial part of me,
who once had slept, then became the key
to traveling over the rainbow
to somewhere in between.
Both in Kansas and over the rainbow,
whether tin man or lion or scarecrow,
sacred friends in dissimilar guises,
bearing presents of various sizes,
come together, at last,
and our talents contrast
in a way that expands
all the colorful strands
of the Light connecting our Souls.
We need one another to play our roles!
The face that you bare to the world
should be the one your heart can see;
it points to where you are meant to be:
in Kansas or over the rainbow
or somewhere in between.
For me, the space that’s most serene
is somewhere in between.
