Groundhog Day Reimagined

Whether winter stretches before us

or springtime is almost here,
we should focus on what will restore us
at this pivotal time of year.

In the hearts of millions among us,
renewal has taken place,
and the worries that once overhung us
are now fuel for our current race.

Yet, there are many still brooding,
obsessing on past regrets;
through limited thoughts they’re excluding
the joy that, their losses, off-sets.

Regardless of what Phil the Groundhog sees,

in spite of more warmth or another deep freeze,
the start of a year or a month or a day
invites us to honor our need for play!

Alongside of desires within,

to our thoughts, outer needs afix.
Until the moment we shed human skin,
the thinking mind, with the heart, conflicts.

Expectations arise from without,
inner longings are then deferred.
If we give in to demands and to doubt,
the call from soul will remain unheard!

Let inspiration direct us
in choosing which course to take.
Diversion can serve to connect us
to Source so we’re truly awake.

I humbly suggest that each Groundhog Day,
instead of the weather, we focus on play!
