Surrender All

As a young girl,

to skip and twirl,
to swing and slide
lit me up inside!

Feeling pizzazz
in tap and jazz,
I longed for more
that I could explore.

Except for ballet, it felt like play,
and lessons learned there applied…everywhere.

Tap-dancing class

and greener grass
would bring some light
to the daily fight.

Time moved along,
yet my heart’s song
remained unheard,
and dreams were deferred.

Then, high on a shelf, my bygone self
surrendered the past; I was whole at last!

Life rearranged;

the players changed.
Though terrified,
I refused to hide.

Since I had moved,
my needs behooved
that something new
was long overdue.

By taking a chance on ballroom dance,
my heart’s opened wide; I swing, sway, and glide!

Never again

can gutless men,
my faith, destroy,
or impede my joy!

Whether I’m here
or in Zaire,
a dance for two
enhances the view.

From living with heart, I’ll ne’er depart.
To answer its call, I’ll surrender…all.
