The Journey

In the vineyard of romance,

I longed to take another chance.
I wanted once again to dance
a Rumba full of passion!
I tired of the ration
that was doled out in a fashion
that I judged as less than fair.

I hated playing solitaire
and set my sights on desert air,
attuned to what might come.
At first, to pain, remaining numb,
I marched to my own drum
in search of parts that I had lost,
even those I’d blindly tossed
aside while seized by early frost.

But hesitation came one day
brought on by lies that spoiled the play;
my fearfulness was leading me astray.

Vineyards flourish in the sun,

and icy thoughts can overrun
the blossoms ’til you’re left with none.
Regretful hearts can harden;
past seasons, you must pardon,
to assure that this year’s garden
will have plants that grow and thrive!

The courage needed to survive
the growing pains while you’re alive
is born of gratitude.
In changing how what’s past is viewed,
you raise your magnitude.
And once again, a loving heart
opens wide so you can start
the journey toward your counterpart.

No longer in fear’s stranglehold,
you move ahead, both sane and bold,
excited for what’s certain to unfold!
