Nostalgia

Wafting through autumnal airs,

memories of distant days
and long-ago, forgotten ways
of home and hearth, peace on earth,
and Mom and Daddy’s daily prayers
so often catch me unawares.

Why is it that nostalgia enters
with the smell of pumpkin spice,
transporting me to a paradise
envisaged by my inner child?
Instantly, I’m reconciled
with positive perspectives
on present-day objectives,
oblivious to dissenters.

Some forward-thinking vistas enter,
breaking through the stranglehold
of limited thoughts, so icy-cold
they’ve kept me frozen in my tracks.
False beliefs disguised as facts
had halted forward movement
(that’s needed for improvement),
positioning me off center.

Once again on higher ground,
merging my nostalgic thoughts
with future goals unties the knots.
All doubt and fear disappear!
Ancestral messages resound,
assuring me I’m homeward bound.
