He Flies Above

Dancing on the western wind,

a blossom from a nearby tree
enlivened my meditative walk.

And as I took a breath and grinned,
my higher mind encouraged me
to summon my totem red-tailed hawk.

Though I know he flies above

no matter where my body dwells,
that walkabout took me back in time
to distant shores I’ll ever love —
to stormy seas, to sights and smells
that started another paradigm.

Hawk began to trek with me
well over seven years ago.
How far we have flown since first we met!
And flying high, I’ve learned to see
that what’s perceived is seldom so,
that life’s to be lived without regret.

Now, my journey’s reached a point

when past returns; my focus shifts.
Important decisions must be made.

I pray that Spirit does anoint
my chosen path and soul uplifts —
that what is expected is conveyed.

And despite the nerves that doubt has frayed,
I walk toward the future unafraid!
