Afraid to Fly

The Muses are waiting, anticipating

the needs of the many along with my own.

They’re ever a-buzzing, like partners discussing
ideas and rhythms I’ll later be shown.

Lapsing each Tuesday from waking to dreams,
I enter a state that is not as it seems.
Elements of time — of beauty and rhyme —
are united with knowledge, surpassing sublime.

So how can I be so afraid to fly?
What memories haunt me and darken my sky?
Digging down deep, I’m still wondering why
chimeras that taunt me say I mustn’t try.

Though Spirit I follow, it’s hard to swallow
my having to loosen this Gordian Knot.

There’s always a reason, and now is the season
to banish the demons that keep me distraught.

In letting them go, I will DO, not try!
Despite growing older, there’s still some blue sky….
Freeing myself from the need to know why,
that Gordian Knot, by itself, will untie.

For no one alive should simply get by.
Though rooted on Earth, we were ALL meant to fly!
